Red Spots on Roof of Mouth

Sores inside lip and tongue, in the mouth, red spots inside nose etc; are painful but the red spots on the roof of mouth near nose and lips not only gives a shabby look but can also be a concern for an individual suffering with the disease. There are various causes for the red spots on roof of the mouth. Some of the causes are-

Canker sores

Canker sores are first developed inside the mouth when we eat specific foods and they come in contact with an irritant, resulting in a bump which develops inside the cheeks or lips. The sore is quite small and look like red bumps. And sometimes these sores transform into small spots with a whitish formation in the center. These red spots go away gradually by using mouthwash and also by applying analgesic ointment.

Tonsillitis

It is very common to have inflammation in small children. This infection is caused mainly by bacteria and viruses. If your child is having tonsillitis frequently, then it may become chronic.  In such cases it has to be removed surgically. The main symptoms of this infection are sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, swollen neck glands, headache, fever, and vomiting, white patches and also loss of voice. Special hygiene should be taken as precautions. Wash your hands and utensils properly before eating. If you or your child is infected then don’t let him go to school because other children can also be infected. Family members also must take precautions at home.

Oral herpes

Oral herpes are like cold sores caused due to simplex virus 1. They appear to be painful blisters on the skin of lips or surrounding of mouth. Cold sores are painful fluid filled blisters. Oral herpes are infection prone, and is transmittable from one person to other. It is caused by kissing or sharing utensils. These should be avoided as this may transmit the disease. It is also sexually transmitted disease. People indulging in oral sex may also are in risk in transmitting the virus. These spots are first appears as grey and white in color and then it gradually turns into red in color on the surface of the mouth. After some days in the middle of red spots,  one may notice ulcers. These ulcers which were on the roof of the mouth can cause the area to become reddened, inside the mouth surface. So, the red spots on the roof of the mouth should be taken good care of.

 Oral cancer

This can occur in lips, tongue, cheeks, teeth and tongue gums. Some white grey patches occur inside the mouth, lips known as leukoplakia.  This is basically caused by tobacco or also by rough tooth. Other symptoms are flat cells which are called squamous cells. A patch is formed on the surface of the mouth, tongue and lips and even in tonsils. It can be a signal for trouble. In such cases it advisable to take medical supervision.

Injuries caused by certain food items

Another reason for getting red spots is due to injuries. This is caused by food item which are hard and have been injured by hitting. This can be a temporary injury. Gradually it is vanished. Advisable treatment can be taken by rinsing your mouth by water mixed in salt and sucking on some ice cubes to get some relief. To get good recovery, you must eat foods which are soft, easy to chew and swallow. In such injuries, you must stay away from the citrus food as lemon, tomatoes. Spicy food should also be avoided for good results.

Candidiasis

Candidiasis also causes red spots inside the mouth. It is basically caused by overgrowth of fungal infections. This is very much common among diabetic patients. In this white patches are formed inside the mouth. Red spots and bumps are also grown on the roof of the mouth. For the treatment of this particular disease, it is best to use antifungal medications prescribed by doctors. Usually medicines are found in the form of liquid and tablets. It is best to go for the consultation from your doctor in this situation.

Petechiae

It happens when the vessels of blood under the skin is ruptured. The main symptoms of this disease is bleeding disorder, excess pressure on the blood capillaries which causes purple colored tiny dots on the surface of the skin.

Coxsackievirus Infection

This disease caused by virus can range from mild to dangerous.  Red spots are grown in the roof of the mouth and lips. Apart from this, it also develops on the foot and hands. These red spots are  painful. It is prevalent among the children who are under five years of age, and people with weak immune systems. Antibiotics are not effective in these cases. Doctors prescribe medicines for fever and pain which is reduced to a large extent. Proper rest must be taken by the patients to get fast relief. One can exercise prevention by maintaining hygience, washing hands properly and covering the mouth while coughing.
